Sometimes you find the most interesting characters strolling under the streets in grass skirts.

grass skirt man.

I snapped this photo after work as I was waiting for a train. We are all going about our business and I think I was the only person to look twice at the shirtless man walking through the Times Square station in a grass skirt, flip flops, a sun hat. He definitely put a smile on my face. This guy was just doing his thing, not asking for a handout or giving us a well practiced speech about his hard times, nope just on his way to a luau or some such summer fun. I wonder if shirts are optional for men on the train? hmm.

On a side note, take a look at the man on the right in the suit. I think he thought he was the subject of my photo. He was looking at me as though I was the topless one in a grass skirt when he saw me pull my camera out. Well, he probably wasn’t looking at me like I was topless but perhaps like I was invading his super special privacy by snapping a shot of a clear exhibitionist underground.

Anyway, enjoy the photo.

About clarissa

I'm a girl from Texas living in New York since October 2010. I fell in love with New York City on a business trip here in April 2009. I had to drag my husband along for the ride at first but just a few hours on his own while I was at the conference and he was completely on board. He began texting me mundane things like the price of milk and the quality of produce so that I could see it wasn't so much different than Austin. What are the chances that after just one week in New York two people would leave with the exact same resolution to one day live there? We did. Just about 18 months later we signed a lease on a new apartment and started a new chapter in our lives. This blog will hopefully give me a chance to document our adventures in New York as well as to share my perspective on the same using photos and stories. enjoy.
